Bringing your own gear/camera
You are most welcome to bring your own dive gear, keeping in mind that domestic flights impose a 15kg checked luggage limit and we will be happy to take good care of your dive gear after your dives.
However, our rental equipment is in tip-top condition. We rent Mares brand for BCD and regulator and wetsuit.
All our regulators come with a depth and pressure gauge, all BCDs have a signal device.
Our dive tanks are aluminum 80/11l and the valves are both DIN and INT/YOKE.
We recommend diving with a 3mm (1/4") full-body suit but it remains your choice and what you are used to diving with. We wish you to be warm and comfortable to enjoy your dives.
A fresh water bucket is on board the boat to keep your camera.
How do you handle decompression emergencies?
The nearest hyperbaric chamber is in Suva so we rather dive conservatively to keep our dives to a maximum of 50 minutes.
However, if any medical emergencies should arise, it is standard procedure to transport guests to Taveuni Hospital for evaluation and subsequent treatment course.
If indeed evacuation to the hyperbaric chamber is required, Fiji has medivac services.
While we carry a good stock of medical gear and medication at Dolphin Bay Divers Retreat, should that not be enough, Taveuni island hospital is sufficiently equipped for most general treatments.
Do I need to bring along my dive certification card (c card)?
Yes, if you want to dive. That said we of course can help you locate your certification number from your agency (PADI & SSI) should that be necessary.
Do you allow spearfishing?
No. We encourage all our guests to respect the marine environment, leaving it untouched so others may enjoy in the future.
Do you offer night diving?
Yes. Most certainly we do. Every day the "pool” is open (the ocean that is) for shore based night diving.
How long are the scheduled boat dives?
This region is blessed with abundant marine life and dive sites that have both deep and shallow areas. However, due to the strength of the currents in the Rainbow Reef all of our dives are guided and as we previously stated, we rather keep our dives at a conservative 50minute limit. We dive 2 tanks at 8am & we are back in time for lunch. A 3rd tank option is available but please let us know what your needs are and we will do our best to make it happen.
Shore dives are limited to your air consumption.
